Local Events & Food
Events: Enjoy the numerous local festivals when the streets are lit with thousands of lights, fireworks are set off and the locals enjoy dancing to traditional pizzica music. The famous Notte della Taranta festival takes place every August and should not be missed.
Food: Sample local food specialities of homemade orecchiette pasta, grilled meats & freshly caught fish, vegetables in season, locally made cheeses & typical Salento pastries.
Excellent local wines include Negroamaro, Aleatico & Primitivo. Our favourite is the Santi Medici Rosato – produced by the local Castel di Salve winery in nearby Depressa.
